{"id":2113,"date":"2020-11-11T07:44:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T07:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lexis-project.eu\/web\/?page_id=2113"},"modified":"2021-10-26T17:17:56","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T17:17:56","slug":"rules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lexis-project.eu\/web\/open-call\/rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"requirements\">REQUIREMENTS TO BE FULFILLED<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To access to the LEXIS platform, Open Call\nApplicants will have to sign rules governing this access and will also have to\ncomply with these rules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These rules govern in particular the possibilities\nof using: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The\ncomputing capacity of the infrastructure, <\/li><li>The use of\nsoftware,<\/li><li>The\nconditions of access to the infrastructure. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For simplicity of using existing set of rules, partners will have to sign the rules of those supercomputing centres, where they will perform their calculations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"rules\">RULES FOR APPLICATION EXPERIMENT SUBMISSION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>SUBMISSION LANGUAGE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The application and the related documents have to be written in English (US English, UK English, International English). Any document or application submitted in any other language will be rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>SUBMISSION PROCESS &amp; TIMING<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The applicants can submit their\napplication experiments from the date the submission forms are made available\non the LEXIS Website. Submissions can be accepted from this date to summer 2021\n(August at latest).&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions will follow a 2 steps\nselection process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"pl20\"><strong>STEP 1<\/strong>: once the application completed accordingly is received by the LEXIS Open Call Board, the selection committee will operate a first PRE-SELECTION uniquely based on the application received. Applicants not pre-selected will receive a notification by email. The Pre-selected Applicants will be notified for moving to Step 2 of the selection process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"pl20\"><strong>STEP 2<\/strong>: Each pre-selected applicant will be invited to a meeting (which modalities will depend on the circumstances, mainly due to the COVID 19 situation) with the selection committee to discuss in depth the Application Experiment submitted and the applicant\u2019s project<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case the meeting with an\napplicant is not sufficient to take a final decision, the selection committee\nmay decide to request more information and\/or to organise a second meeting with\nthe applicant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the following days after the end of\nthe meetings with pre-selected applicants, the selection committee will\ncommunicate to Applicants the final decision (positive or negative). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pre-selection and final selection will end when the resources made available by the LEXIS Consortium are used in full or if the selection committee decides that the number and quality of selected applicants is such that the Open Call can be closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants will receive a formal acknowledgment of reception by email. This acknowledgment will not be in any way a validation or acceptance of the Application<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>RE-OPENING OF THE CALL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case that the evaluation process concludes with insufficient number of accepted or validated proposals, the LEXIS Consortium reserves the right to re-open the Call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>EVALUATION AND SELECTION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Essential to the whole process of selecting the Application Experiments and to proceed to the continuous evaluation and monitoring of results, outcomes and feedbacks, an Open Call Board has been set up by the LEXIS Consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to your submission you can download the self-administered questionnaire that you would have to complete and upload during the submission process. <a href=\"https:\/\/lexis-project.eu\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Open-Call-Self-Administered-Questionnaire.doc\">Download the questionnaire<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>GENERAL RULES<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Open Call Board will receive all submissions and will proceed to evaluate each of them.<\/li><li>It will be its sovereign decision to select application experiments the most suitable for the purpose of this Open Call, in the limits of the capacities made available for this Open Call.<\/li><li>The Open Call Board may have to request complementary information about the submitted application experiments before taking a final decision.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>DURATION OF USAGE OF THE LEXIS PLATFORM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The experimental activities of the Open Call pilots\nwill end 2 months before the end of the LEXIS project, while Exploitation,\nCommunication and Dissemination activities related to these Application\nExperiments have to be managed as long as the project is running. Special regulations referring to Computing\nand Storage resources are reported below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Special usage-duration limits applying to computing resources: computations of an open-call pilot will end when the limit of core-hours allocated to that pilot is achieved (cf. Section 3.2.1).<\/li><li>Special usage-duration limits applying to storage resources: preservation of data, if not guaranteed otherwise (e.g. by direct communication with a computing centre in LEXIS), will only be guaranteed until the end of the LEXIS project. In emergency cases and for limited amounts of data (&lt;10TB), longer preservation may be agreed on a case by case basis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>FINAL EVALUATION OF OPEN CALL PROJECTS&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Project Managers in collaboration with the\nLEXIS Management and the Open Call Board will monitor a continuous evaluation\nprocess all along the Open Call duration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, at the end of each application\nexperiment, the Open Call Board will have a fully documented evaluation report\nmade by the Project Managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Application Experiments will have an \u201cEnd of\nProject\u201d evaluation made and discussed with the Applicants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each individual End-of-Project Report will be then\ncommunicated to the LEXIS management team and the Open Call Board for final\nevaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The detailed and global evaluations of the Open\nCall will be produced in 2 versions, to respect the confidentiality rules and\nthe IP management rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>1 version (confidential) for internal usage (EU, LEXIS Consortium, Open Call Board, Applicants when relevant),<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>1 version (public) for external communication purposes (when relevant).<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>COLLECTION OF FEEDBACK FOR EACH APPLICATION EXPERIMENT &amp; QUALITY MANAGEMENT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All along the duration of the Open Call, each\nselected project will be monitored by the Project Managers in coordination with\nthe Open Call Board with a process for collecting qualitative and quantitative\ndata for assessing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>User\nexperience in using the LEXIS platform (Portal, Infrastructure, Data\nmanagement, Visualisation, etc.),<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Effectiveness\nof infrastructure management,<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Effectiveness\nof orchestration,<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Effectiveness\nof Data management, Data Nodes, Cross site synchronisation for distributed\nstorage,<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Security\nboth from External User and LEXIS Platform administration perspectives.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This collection of data, qualitative and quantitative, will help the LEXIS Consortium to assess quality issues and to address them as soon as possible in preparation of the final delivery of the LEXIS Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>COMMUNICATION &amp; DISSEMINATION &#8211; PUBLICATION OF RESULTS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Open Call must generate a significant amount of\nvarious type of Communication and Dissemination actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a major tool to significantly increase\nawareness about the LEXIS Project and platform to attract interest of both the\nResearch and the Industry communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ultimate goal of the LEXIS platform is to\nprovide these communities with an efficient way to face the challenges from\nmodern digitalisation and computing era in a complex and converged environment\n(HPC, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud based infrastructures and\/or\naccesses, etc.). As a consequence, it is strategic to use the opportunities\ngenerated by using Real Use Cases and Application Experiments on the LEXIS\nplatform Open Call to demonstrate the effectiveness, the relevance and the\nefficiency for the benefits of our research and modern economies in the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These actions will be organised around 3 major\nphases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Phase 1:\nLaunching the Open Call (awareness, recruiting applicants, Exploitation advertisement\nand Teasing)<\/li><li>Phase\n2:&nbsp; Along the duration of the Open Call (News, results sharing,\nmonitoring, networks animation, teasing for Exploitation)<\/li><li>Phase\n3:&nbsp; End of the Open Call (results, outcomes, teasing for Exploitation)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For each of the above&nbsp;mentioned phases, we\nwill act in 2 categories of actions, using the tools and strategies developed\nby the LEXIS Consortium:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Dissemination,<\/li><li>Communication.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The global perspective of the Open Call itself and\nthe Dissemination and Communication efforts developed around it is to\nsignificantly prepare and support the Exploitation plan for the LEXIS Project,\nitself focusing on 2 phases of Exploitation: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>During the\nLEXIS project,<\/li><li>After the\nend of the LEXIS project.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In doing so, we will significantly increase the\nreach and the impact of LEXIS by capitalising on and leveraging:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The\nefforts structured and deployed by the LEXIS Consortium for the LEXIS Project\nitself, and for its own benefit during and after the end of the project,<\/li><li>The\nindividual partners of the LEXIS Consortium by allowing them to use the\ncommunication, dissemination tools and outcomes for their own network in their\nrespective industry and research communities, to their own benefits,<\/li><li>The\npossibility for Applicants to largely communicate on the success of using the\nLEXIS platform for their projects.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The LEXIS Consortium will action every tool,\nchannel build, developed and monitored for and on behalf of the LEXIS project,\nincluding among them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Scientific\nand other Publications,<\/li><li>Conferences,\nWorkshops, Trainings, Events and Tradeshows,<\/li><li>Website,\nNewsletters, Blogs and SEO best practices,<\/li><li>Marketing\nmaterials,<\/li><li>Social\nNetworks (from the LEXIS Project itself and from Consortium Members),<\/li><li>Field\nactions by the operational teams of each partner in the LEXIS project (Sales,\nMarketing, Communication),<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Corporate, EU and National bodies relays when possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>LEGAL, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY &amp; CONFIDENTIALITY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3>OPEN CALL \u2013 IPR MANAGEMENT&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>IPR management applied in the Open Call will follow\nthe rules described in the LEXIS project proposal as well as in the Grant\nAgreement signed by all members of LEXIS project. General IPR principle of\nLEXIS project is to ensure as much as possible that the project work is open\nand usable by others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This approach will be applied for Open Call as\nwell. However, due to commercial considerations of some industrial partners,\nnot all the work carried out during the Open Call will be open. All the\nactivities regarding IPR issues in the Open Call will be coordinated by the\nInnovation Manager of the LEXIS project.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the Open Call project launches, the LEXIS\nProject partners will define rules governing access to the LEXIS platform in\norder to minimize any internal issues within the consortium related&nbsp;to the\nwork, IP ownership, Confidential Information,&nbsp;Access&nbsp;&nbsp;Rights\nto&nbsp;Background&nbsp;and Foreground IP for the duration of the Open Call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Open Call Applicants can identify and agree (in\nwriting) on the background IP for the action. \u2018Background\u2019 means any data,\nknow-how or information \u2014 whatever its form or nature (tangible or intangible),\nincluding any rights such as intellectual property rights that the Open Call\nApplicant would be using during the Open Call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the Results as well as data sets, for\nexample workflows, reports, generated during the Open Call will be made\npublicly available as an Open Source.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REQUIREMENTS TO BE FULFILLED To access to the LEXIS platform, Open Call Applicants will have to sign rules governing this access and will also have to comply with these rules.
